Why We Need Vegetables for Good Health

We Are Often Told That Vegetables Are Good For Our Health…

And of course they are!

But for children growing up we all remember that one of our parents most frequent lines of advice (or in most cases demands) was to eat your vegetables!

As children we often wonder why we need vegetables and to be honest I never liked them as a kid!

The answers are many as vegetables provide lots of benefits and the reason why we need vegetables is that they contain nutrients hard to obtain from other sources. We need vegetables for a few important reasons including maintaining a low calorie diet and getting the vitamins we need.

So I always try to eat as healthy as possible whereever I am and even if I am in a hurry – no junk food or sodas and no extra vitamins nutrition supplements for me – I am what I eat and that needs to be the best for me and it should be for you too!

Vegetables are terrific at providing a low calorie diet and although vegetables top the list of “what do kids hate to eat” they are very important for adults as well. As a child you may be able to work off calories from eating easily through exercise, but as adults we need to put in more effort.

Most vegetables we eat pack an enormous amount of nutritional content into a very low calorie package and are also filling and thus you can satisfy both hunger and nutritional needs without packing on a large number of calories. This can go a very long way towards eating healthy and sensibly.

In terms of vitamins, vegetables are well packed with all the types we need as humans. These vitamins can mean we do not need multi-vitamins or other types of supplements.

Having various different types of vegetables including green leafed ones and others like bell peppers ensures you get the variety you need for a more balanced diet.

Eat your greens and be healthy!

How many of us know what is healthy eating? One may have three square meals a day, yet may not be eating healthy.

It is not the quantity of food that we eat, but the quality of food that we consume which is important.

To live a long and healthy life, one had to regulate the eating habits in a manner that our intake gives us all the ingredients necessary for healthy growth.

With the national Nutrition month in progress, it has set its theme as “Eat Right.” Whether it is whole grains or fruits and vegetables, one has to take a balanced approach to meals. To get the best out of the foods that we eat, one has to inculcate the habit of ensuring that we vary the meals that we eat.

The body requires a balanced amount of nutrients to remain healthy. One of the best methods to ensure that the meals are balanced is to do some planning in advance.

Do not conjure up a meal at the last minute, because you will then just eat what is most conveniently available and takes the least time to prepare.

Ask yourself what do kids hate to eat and try to make that very thing in a manner that it becomes more palatable and appealing to them.

Do not make very ambitious plans to change your entire eating habits overnight. That way you are least likely to stick to it.

Make gradual but sure changes with a bit of planning to be able to stick it out. Add a bit of everything and include variety. Fats too are essential but in limited quantity.

Make your kids like the food you give them – don’t give them the excuse to dislike it!
